In the Italian district of Lazio, just north of Rome en south of Tuscany and Umbria, lies this lovely and comfortable country home Serrari. This country home is ideally situated for visits to Rome and many historically and archeologically interesting places in the direct vicinity. Lazio, or Latium, has been inhabited many thousands years and is the area with the most Etruscan history. The Mediterranean is only 40 km away to the west. Holiday home Serrari is only 10 car-minutes away from Oriolo Romano and Manziana from where it takes 60 minute by train to reach the city of Roma. A day-trip by train to Roma and back was just 9,20 euro’s in 2015. This ticked gives the traveler the right to use the trains and public buses in and around Roma.
The province Lazio, where holiday home Serrari is situated, is still very Italian and not yet overrun by tourism. This is why local prices are still adapted modest and visitors are served very friendly.
Holiday-home Serrari is spacious and offers plenty of room for 8 (up to 10) persons. It has two bathrooms and 4 bedrooms. The master-bedroom has, besides a twin-bed on the ground-floor, another twin-bed on an open attic. There are two bathrooms, both with shower and bath. The main living area consists of an open kitchen-dining-room of 50 m2 connected to a living-room of also 50 m2. Both, the living-room and the eating-area, have beside normal central heating, their own open fireplace. The kitchen area is large and very complete. The covered terrace, connected to the kitchen, has a barbecue and a large table big enough to seat 10 persons. Wifi, TV, Radio, washing machine and Dryer are available. Well behaved pets are allowed An above ground swinging-pool of 2 x 4 meters will be installed in the summer-period. There are 3 more terrace areas one small one overlooks a valley that is part of the property. The total property of 2 hectare is enclosed acces is through a gate that can be opened from inside the house. The house is is furnished in the rustic Italian style.
The owner of this holiday home is an accomplished cook in the Italian cuisine and speaks fluent English, French, German and Dutch. When requested she is willing to give a workshop Italian cooking. In close proximity, approx. 10 km away, one finds lake Braciano and the lovely little cities of Braciano and Anguillara. Near Cerveteri, 35 km away, one finds the largest Etruscan necropolis and the Etruscan museum. Santa Severa is a medieval castle on a beautiful beach at 40 km from the house. Tuscania, one hour by car, has two basilica, the San Pietro and the Santa Maria Maggiore, both more than 1000 years old. Day-trips to Rome are best made by train. The train-station of Oriolo Romano is 5 km from the house and offers a frequent train-connection to Rome. A day-ticket of less than 10 euros (2015 prices) per person offers free use of the train, the metro and the official busservice in Roma and all of Lazio.
Travel and transport
Please be aware that having acces to a car is highly recommended because of the rural location of the house.
Traveling by car to Canale Monterano and Holiday home Serrari. Once in Italy the fastest way to get to the house is by taking the A1 from Milano southward. Take the exit Orte (261 miles from Milano) and follow direction Viterbo. Having acces to a navigation system will help to go from there to Monte Virginio (part of Canale Monterano) where you can be met by the proprietor of Serrari who wil guide you from there to Holiday home Serrari.
Traveling by air. It is recommended to fly to Leonardo da Vinci airport (Fiumicino). Than renting a car at the airport and travel in 60 minutes to the Monte Virginio (part of Canale Monterano) where you can be met by the proprietor of Serrari who wil guide you from there to Holiday home Serrari.
Pricing and rental conditions
Saturdays are the arrival and departure days. In exceptional circumstances other arrival and departure days can be agreed upon. During high season the minimum rental period is one week. On the arrival day the house will be available from 15:00 onwards. On the day of departure the house needs to be vacated before 12:00. Arrangements for handing over of keys are made directly with the proprietor. When a booking is confirmed the phone-number of the proprietor will be given.
High season. During High season the weekly rental price is 950 euro. High season are the full weeks of July and August as well as the Easter, Xmas and Year-end weeks.
Low season. The weekly rental price in the low season is 750 euro.
Electricity and gas usage. Usage of electricity and gas are separately charged and have to be paid directly to the proprietor.
Water. Usage of water is included in the rental price.
Fireplace wood. Guests are kindly requested to replenish fire wood stock when used.
Additional charges. The obligatory end cleaning is 75 euro and will be added to the rental fee. A surity charge of 200 euro will be refunded once the house and its content at departure are found te be in in good and undamaged order.
Workshop Italian cooking
A workshop Italian cooking can be arranged directly with the proprietor. She is an accomplished Italian cook and speaks English, German, French and Dutch fluently. The price of the workshop is 80 euro plus the cost of the purchased ingredients.
What happens the day of the workshop. Around 08:30 a menu will be agreed upon with the guests after a which joint shopping trip is done. Depending on the menu of choice small groups can be assigned to cook a specific part of the menu under supervision and with the assistance of the cook. Around 13:00 the menu can be served and the cook is than free to leave.
